Expert Tips To Stay Motivated To Workout At Home
If staying fit and healthy is important to you, then you can not make the same mistakes that most people make when trying to workout at home. You need to be more strategic to be successful.
I have seen people making excuses like “I don’t have time”, “I am not in the mood” or “It is too cold/hot outside”. These are the people that will never reach their fitness goals. If you want to be successful, you need to understand that fitness is not a hobby, it is a lifestyle. And you can not quit when things get tough.
People fail to stay on track with their fitness goals not because they don’t have enough time but because they don’t have the proper motivation. It is important to find what works for you. It’s not necessary that you hit the gym every day or join a sports team. There are lots of other ways to stay active.
Here are some tips that will help you stay motivated to workout at home:
Change The Way You Think
Shifting your mindset is the first step toward success. You need to stop thinking of working out as a chore and start seeing it as an opportunity to improve your health and well-being.
When I started my journey as a personal trainer, I met a lot of clients who were unhappy with their current fitness levels. They would come to me and say things like “I need to lose weight” or “I want to get in shape”. And my first question to them would always be, “why?”
Most of them could not answer that question. They were not motivated to workout because they did not have a clear goal in mind. Once I helped them set realistic goals, they would likely stick with their workout routine.
So, the first step is to ask yourself, “why do I want to workout?”. When you have a clear goal in mind, it will be easier to stay motivated.
Set Realistic Goals And Milestones
Once you know why you want to workout, it is time to set some realistic goals. Do not try to lose 20 pounds in one month or run a marathon if you have never run before.
Start small and gradually increase the difficulty of your workouts as you get more fit. Set milestones that you can achieve in the short term to see results and stay motivated.
For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, set a goal to lose two pounds per week. And if your goal is to get in shape, commit to working out three times per week.
It’s important to find a workout routine that you enjoy, and that fits your schedule. There is no point in signing up for a program membership if you are only going to use it once a week. Find something that you can stick with in the long term.
Commit To A Regular Workout Schedule
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to workout at home is that they do not commit to a regular schedule. They workout whenever they feel like it or when they have some free time.
This is not the right approach. You need to treat working out like any other important appointment in your life. Set aside time for your workout each day or week and stick to it.
This doesn’t mean that you can never miss a workout. Life happens, and there will be times when you can not make it to the gym. But do not let this become a habit. Missing one or two workouts here and there is not a big deal. But if you start skipping workouts regularly, it will not be easy to get back on track.
I understand that finding the time to workout can be difficult, especially if you have a busy lifestyle. That’s why I create a custom workout plan for my clients, that they can do in 40 minutes and that too from the comfort of their own home.
Make It Fun And Diverse
Working out doesn’t have to be boring. There are lots of ways to make it fun and diverse.
If you don’t like running on the treadmill, try playing a sport or going for a hike. There are lots of fitness apps and websites that offer workout programs that you can do at home.
You can also try working out with a friend or family member. This will make the experience more enjoyable, and you will be more likely to stick with it.
Find what works for you and make sure that you are enjoying yourself. If you are not having fun, you are not going to stick with it.
Get A Workout Partner
One of the best ways to stay motivated to workout is to find a workout partner. This could be a friend, family member, or even a co-worker.
Having someone to workout with will make the experience more enjoyable, and you will be more likely to stick with it. It is also a great way to stay accountable.
You can also hire a personal trainer if you can afford it. A trainer will design a custom workout program for you and help you stay on track.
